HISTORY, What is history ? do you know our Indian history ? I think you know our Indian history but you do not know our Indian history in detail, so today we will learn about same history. so let's start.
it is a book that gives us information about the events that happened in the past and that is the only history that definitely happened.
Introduction:- "History", it is derived from a Greek word whose name is "Historica".
the meaning of Historica is that whatever information is found by searching or by searching it is called Historica in Greek language Greek man named Herodotus. he was a first to write a history book called Historica.By writing this book, he gave information about which event has happened in the past.Herodotus was the first to write history, so he is called the father of history.
History is what gives us information about those events, whose evidence or source is with us , and the sources that give us information about history are of three types:-
(a) Archaeological source:- remains, inscriptions, commemorative, coins, statues, etc are all archaeological sources.
Example:- we have found many relics in Harappa which is the archaeological source of this event that has happened in the past.
similarly, we have got the old inscriptions of Ashoka which we have found in Kharosthi script or Brahma script. It was first read by James prinsep in 1837 AD and he told what important things Ashoka did during his rign, and what were the important events that happened during his rign.
similar, monuments have been found like Red fort of Delhi, Taj mahal of Agara, Buland darwaja of Fatehpur sikri etc.
Some coins of Samudragupta, a great rular of the Gupta period were found on which "Samudragupta" was written in Sanskrit and on the other side of the coin Smudragupta was depicted playing the Veena. From this we came to know that Samudragupta was a veena player and also came to know that veena is the oldest musical intrument of India.
Apart from this, we also got idols like:- idols of Natraj, Pashupatinath, Purohit raja etc.
These are all archeaological sources that tell about the past
(B)Literary source:- We mean those books which give information about the events that happened in the past, they are called literary sources.
These are two types :- {1} Religious
{2} Non religious
Religious:- Ramayana, Mahabharata, Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, Upanishads, Puranas, all this give information about the events that happened in the past
Non religious:- Chanakya's arthashastra, Megasthenes's Indica, Patanjali's mahabhashya, Vishakhadatta' mudra rakshas, Kalidas's abhigyanshankutalam, Vishnu sharma's panchatantra etc. all this give information about the events that happened in the past.
These are all Literary sources that tell about the past
(C)Details of foreign travelers:- Since ancient time, foreign travelers came to our country for many places, who spent some time in India and returned to their country and praised india fiercely. Like:- During the reign of Chandragupta II, The grat rular of the gupta dynasty, a famous traveler named Fahiyan came to India and went back to his country after staying for fifteen years and went there and praised india fiercely.
Another famous chinese traveler named Huensang came to india during the reign of the great rular Pushyabhuti dynasty Harshwardhan, and lived in india for sixteen years. He tooks budhhist education in india and discribe our country very well by writting a book called "SIYUKI".
When the tughlaq dynasty was going in the medieval period and mohammad bin tughlaq was ruling there, during his reign a famous traveler came to India from morocco in africa.He spoke fiercelyabout our country by writing a book called"rehla".
if any one of these three sources is found in any event then understand that HISTORY, otherwise it is only the past.
